Earlier this month, CBC colleagues and friends visited Winnipeg for the retirement of sports broadcaster Don Wittman and his induction into the CBC Sports Hall of Fame. Very ill from cancer, he passed away 11 days later.

    I grew up on Don Wittman and Geoff Gowan track-and-field Olympic broadcasts. They were better than NBC, better than the BBC, the best in the world. Don Wittman, a true legend.

  3. If only he'd have lived to see the Jets return to Winnipeg last June or to be still with us at all,for that matter.

    It really hurts to hear his voice so frail like that. I'm sure he is in a better place now. He was the all time greatest, no doubt about that.
