HALIFAX — A seven-year-old Nova Scotia boy who suffered brain damage at birth has received a $6 million settlement — the largest of its kind in the province’s history. The lawsuit said Cullen Chisholm suffered oxygen deprivation during his delivery which caused severe cerebral palsy. Lawyer John McKiggan says Cullen is unable to care for himself in any way and will require 24 hour attendant care for the rest of his life. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Ottawa.  The first “heat event” of the season will take place in portions of Central and Eastern Ontario Sunday.  A warm and humid airmass is expected to move into the region with temperatures between 20 and 31 degrees Sunday. But the hot weather event isn’t expected to stick around very long. Colder temperatures are predicted to move in on Monday. RCMP in Grande Prairie said a local driver is facing hundreds of dollars in fines, after a rainbow crosswalk in the northern Alberta city was damaged. Police said on Thursday, at about 8 p.m., a witness told police a truck had done a burnout on the recently repainted Pride crosswalk at 98 Street and 103 Avenue. The crosswalk was marked with black tire tracks. Investigators managed to track down the truck, and the vehicle’s owner was issued two tickets, with fines of more than $800. There’s an ongoing stalemate in Cornwall as a strike by city workers drags on. Four hundred union workers remain on the picket lines. They work on everything from parks to paramedic calls.
