Thousands in Windsor-Essex to be impacted by social assistance changes

Changes to social assistance in Ontario will impact thousands of people in Windsor-Essex. The Progressive Conservatives are pushing the pause button on the previous Liberal government’s system, and replacing it with one of their own. As part of the changes, the promised three per cent increase to Ontario Works and ODSP recipients will be slashed in half, to 1.5 per cent. A Saskatchewan man is dead after he crashed a small plane near Grande Prairie Tuesday afternoon. The crash occurred near Range Road 52 at approximately 2 p.m. The victim, a 43-year-old man, was the lone occupant of the plane. Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigated the cause of the crash. Six people have been charged following four different raids during a four-week period. Police in the Toronto area say a 73-year-old Quebec man is facing charges in an investigation into sexual assaults alleged to have occurred nearly 50 years ago.
