Suspicious fires at 1481 Limberlost on

London police and fire officials are investigating a pair of suspicious blazes at a west end townhouse complex. Emergency crews were called to 1481 Limberlost around 5 a.m. Tuesday. Some mattresses were set on fire outside of the building near a fence, while another blaze occurred at the front door of one of the units. No one was hurt. The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called to help investigate. Ontario adding $100M to battle forest fires across province

TORONTO — The Ontario government is adding $100 million to funds available to fight forest fires in the province. The Progressive Conservative government made the announcement on Wednesday and says the money is on top of base funding of almost $70 million to battle the blazes. Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources says there are 116 active fires, including 73 in the northwest region and 43 across the northeast. That compared to 120 active fires on Tuesday afternoon. Three Mile Lake residents warned about potential blue-green algae bloom

Health officials are cautioning residents around Three Mile Lake about the likelihood of a blue-green algae bloom. The health unit warns that exposure to blue-green algae can pose a health risk to people and animals. Blue-green algae contains toxins which could be harmful to people and animals. It tends to develop in August and early September.  In some cases, blue-green algae can be deadly to pets.  In New Brunswick, health officials confirmed on Friday three dogs died after being in or near the Saint John River after ingesting blue-green algae. Read More

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority said Wednesday surgeries were underway when an operating room air exchange malfunctioned at St. Boniface Hospital. As a result, health authority officials tell CTV News there is a small infection risk to these patients who were notified about what happened and are being monitored as a precaution. A man in his 40s is dead, and a police investigation is underway intothe highway crash that killed him late Friday night. Officers were called to the head-on collision involving two vehicles on Highway 28 and Range Road 200 just after 11 p.m. Friday, July 27.
