Nepal Earthquake: BBC journalist on Everest when quake hit – BBC News



BBC journalist Thomas Martienssen had been covering the 2015 climbing season from Mount Everest. He was in camp one – 800m above base camp when the earthquake struck. He has been able to send his first video report since being rescued.

Drone racing: The sport of the future? BBC News



Usually when drones are in the news it’s in relation to a military attack but that seems likely to change thanks to a new sport, drone racing. It’s already being called the sport of the future with the drones, or quads as the racers call them, flying around obstacle courses at up to 160 kilometres an hour. Christian Parkinson has been to meet two of the racers taking part in next months drone world championships to find out what the sport is all about and what skills you need to get to the top.

UBS rogue trader: 'It could happen again' BBC News



The London trader who lost the Swiss bank UBS £1.4bn ($1.9bn) has apologised and said that banking has not done enough to regain the public’s trust.In his first broadcast interview, Kweku Adoboli told the BBC that banking was still riven by conflicts of interest. He added that traders were pushed to make profits “no matter what”.

Paradise Papers: Tax haven secrets of ultra-rich exposed – BBC News



A huge new leak of financial documents has revealed how the powerful and ultra-wealthy, including the Queen’s private estate, secretly invest vast amounts of cash in offshore tax havens.
Donald Trump’s commerce secretary is shown to have a stake in a firm dealing with Russians sanctioned by the US.
The leak, dubbed the Paradise Papers, contains 13.4m documents, mostly from one leading firm in offshore finance.
BBC Panorama is part of nearly 100 media groups investigating the papers.

Nora Quoirin: Family 'heartbroken' after body found in Malaysia – BBC News



The family of British teenager Nora Quoirin, whose body has been found in Malaysia, have said their “hearts are broken”.
Nora, who had special needs, was found just over a mile away from the Dusun resort on Tuesday.
The 15-year-old Londoner had been on holiday with her family when she disappeared from her room on 4 August.
In a statement, her family thanked the 350 people who had been hunting for Nora in dense jungle near the resort.
They added: “Nora has brought people together, especially from France, Ireland, Britain and Malaysia, united in their love and support for her and her family.
“She has truly touched the whole world.
