Brazil Zika outbreak: What is happening to Brazil's babies? BBC News



Brazil says thousands of babies have been born with abnormally small heads — since October. The health system is struggling to cope with the outbreak linked to the Zika virus – which is spread by mosquitoes. The rare brain defect affects the babies’ physical and mental development. The disease has spread across Brazil – with close to four-thousand suspected cases since October. It is now showing up in other South American countries.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said this year’s G20 summit will focus on furthering the aims of the Paris climate deal – putting her on a direct collision course with the US president.

Mrs Merkel said she knew the topic may be difficult following Donald Trump’s decision to pull the US out the accord.

However, she said, tackling climate change remained a priority for Europe.

She was backed by other European leaders who said they would speak with “one voice” in Hamburg.

Nigel Farage: Voters 'beginning to put two fingers up' to PM – BBC News



UKIP leader Nigel Farage has said voters are beginning to “put two fingers up” to the political class because they do not like being “threatened” about the potential damage Brexit could cause to the UK.
Speaking to Andrew Marr, he said that if Leave suffers a narrow defeat, the chances of another referendum would be “pretty slim” as he also dismissed the possibility of public unrest in the event of such an outcome.

Australia fires: Turnbull accuses Scott Morrison of 'misleading' nation – BBC News



Australian PM Scott Morrison has been accused of lacking leadership during the bushfire crisis – by the man he replaced after a party room coup.

Malcolm Turnbull, who was deposed in 2018, told the BBC that Mr Morrison had misled the country by “downplaying” the influence of global warming.

Mr Morrison apologised last month for taking a US holiday amid the fires. He has insisted his policies are adequate.
